THE BIRD WHO FLIES TO JESUS!!
Last year at this same exact time, I walked in to an exam room and a tall woman with long braided graying ponytails screamed, "You have to save Homer, this is the bird who flies to Jesus!".
Well I was a little taken aback, I did not know if this was a joke or if this lady was forgetting to take her medication......
Seems that this pigeon, Homer, is literally the bird who flies to Jesus during the production of the Easter play at Southeast Christian Church. Now I really felt the pressure, how could I not save the bird who flies to Jesus, FOR REAL!!!!!!!! After all I am a member at Southeast, and I pray to Jesus on a moment to moment basis to give me the strength and wisdom to practice His will in all of my affairs. Now make no mistake, I often get in HIS way and forget who is in charge, and then he reminds me, often by humbling me beyond belief, and at other times very subtly and with humor.
I examined the little guy and it was obvious he was really very, very sick. Seems he had a raging bacterial infection of his respiratory system (lungs and air sacs). He could barely rest on this perch normally, for he was breathing so very hard and was so week. We performed blood work and microbiology and started Homer on appropriate antibiotic therapy. He responded beautifully, was much better in just 24 hours and continued his work, flying to Jesus!!!
The lady with the braids and I have become friends, we donate Homer's Annual Exam, Blood work and microbiology as a tithe to Southeast Christian, Homer and the long- haired, sandaled carpenter who gave his life for us. Seems like a tiny grain of sand from a never ending beach, the small things that we do for Him, who gave so much for us.
