Sam graduated from Morehead
State University-Morehead, KY in 1979 and pursued his veterinary studies at
Auburn University graduating with honors in 1984. Sam has studied with
highly respected avian veterinarians, including Susan Club, D.V.M. and works
very closely with noted researcher Branson Ritchie, D.V.M. In 1995,
following rigorous testing and evaluation, Sam received "board
certification" as an Avian Specialist from the American Board of Veterinary
Practitioners (ABVP). This honor has been bestowed on only 105 practicing
veterinarians in the world. This certification truly sets Sam apart from the
competition in the field of avian veterinary care and treatment.
Sam spends much of his time at Veterinary Associates-Stonefield in his
Avian-Exotic- Small Animal practice and spends many "days off" visiting
public & private aviaries for on-site care and consultations. He also serves
as special consultant to the Louisville Zoo for avian matters. In his "free
time", Sam has served as chairperson for the Midwest Avian Research Expo in
1992 and 1997.
Sam's personal interests include spending time with friends. Sam can be
found fishing his favorite farm pond or creek every chance he gets!
